“Princess passed away at 10:45AM June 19,2014, she was 21 years 10 months old. I first met Princess on Labor Day 1992- she was 6 weeks old and just a little ball of fur- I picked her up- she started purring softly and couldn’t put her down. We had made an instant bond- she and her litter mate/brother Socrates became an invaluable part of my life. Princess and Socrates are now back together – Socrates having passed away Nov 8 2013. They are both in my thoughts constantly and dearly missed.”

“Maggie passed away on December 29, 2013.

Our beloved Maggie crossed the Rainbow Bridge today. She was 13 and suffering terribly from spondylosis. She hid her pain very well, but we knew she was failing fast. We loved this girl beyond reason. We rescued her 12 years ago when she was found starving with a litter of puppies in Las Vegas, NM. CARMA, a local rescue group, transported her to Albuquerque because the rescuer in Las Vegas said Maggie was “just another black dog that probably won’t get adopted here.” Up to that time, Maggie had lived on the streets, and she never lost her fear of people or her concern that she would starve if she didn’t eat every scrap food she could find. We worked hard to gain her trust and help her understand that she was finally loved and in a safe place. Les and I were honored that she came to love and trust us, and only us, and she knew she was safe here. She was a loving, affectionate dog and we will forever be grateful that we had her in our lives for 12 years. Rest in peace, dear Maggie. I hope we will meet again some day.”

“Ellie passed away on New Year’s Eve, 2013 at the age of about 19 years.

Ellie was an Australian Shepherd who was found out on the highway of the Navajo reservation right around Thanksgiving. He was an absolute mess, covered in matted hair. He got his name because as his new Mom was brushing his hair he would lift his lip at her. He was too scared to tell her not to brush him. He felt it was his job to protect his Mom for the rest of his life. He never really liked men until he met his Dad the following Thanksgiving. Ellie was always a great judge of character.

Ellie was always a caretaker. He loved taking care of the other animals that were picked up on the reservation. He was kind and patient with them.

He loved to burry his nose in the snow and take off running, with one little spot of snow remaining on his face. He was quite the character.

As Ellie grew older, he enjoyed spending time outside listening to the coyotes yip and howl. He spent time in the front yard just watching life go on. It was very calming to him. Ellie had a fan club, which was a bus of autistic children who became very curious about him. The bus driver came to the house to ask what his name was, and to get to know more about him. The kids loved when the driver would stop in front of the house every day so they could say, “Hi, Elvis!”.

Even this last Thanksgiving, he drew a crowd of children. They sat petting him softly and telling him kind words. One little girl even remarked that she wished everyone could have a dog like Elvis.

Elvis touched many hearts in his time here on Earth. He was a very special soul.”

“Midnight passed away on December 17, 2013 at the age of 16 years.

Midnight was a very special poodle who had hair the color of coal. He lived his entire life with his littermate brother, Shadow. The two of them were very close, but they had slight disagreements at night in bed because they each wanted their own space. They shared a bed with their Mom and Dad, who loved them like children. In fact, when Midnight could no longer get up on the bed, they got rid of the bed frame to accommodate him. There is no doubt that Midnight was treated well every day of his life. He left very fond memories behind, but he himself has moved on from this world.”

“Mattie passed away on December 13, 2013 at the age of 14 years.

Matilda was always very sweet, but she was also incredibly fierce. She loved to bark at the UPS man and run him off. While she didn’t like people coming over to make deliveries, the pizza man was a totally different story. She loved pizza. This was a special treat for her. Mattie loved her family. She recently welcomed a little baby girl into the home with loving paws.

Matilda was a good girl. She will be missed for her unique personality that brought smiles to many faces.”

“Little Dog passed away surrounded by her family on December 10, 2013 at the age of 11 years.

Chubby was a Rottweiler that was called Little Dog because she was smaller than her housemate. She was a very close member of the family from the time she came home. She was always a little leery of people she first met. She warmed up to most people, but occasionally she felt they were not to be trusted. She loved chasing squirrels. She never caught them, but they liked to tease her.

Chubby was very special. She was a great companion.”

“Peaches passed away on December 4, 2013 at the age of 15 years.

Peaches was a terrier mix that came from the animal shelter when she was just a couple of years old. She had a lot of energy and was very fast when she was younger. She got her hair cut every spring and by the time the winter had passed, she looked like a mop again. Peaches was always a very low maintenance girl. She loved to have attention, but was always willing to lay at your feet and never pushed herself on anyone.

Peaches watched two children grow up and was a perfect play mate for them. She enjoyed life to it’s fullest.”

“Freddy passed away on November 29, 2013 at the age of 13 years.

Freddy was a very cute lab cross who loved to follow his Mom. Every day, Freddy would go with her to feed the sheep and horses. He loved being outside. He was a fantastic companion and he was very loyal to his family.

Freddy was loved every minute he was with his family. He will be missed very much by his Mom, Dad and many other people that knew him.”

“Coco passed away peacefully on November 27, 2013 at the age of 16 years.

Coco was a very shy cat who was always very scared of the vet and other visitors. Coco loved to cuddle with his kitty housemate, who was his lifelong friend. Coco and his Mom shared a very special bond with one another. He is missed incredibly.”
